This special edition CD is housed in ‘hard-back-book’ packaging, including a 28-page booklet featuring a summary of the year, a track-by-track guide, a quiz, and original singles artwork. opens Side Two, which includes The Cure’s ‘Friday I’m In Love’, Electronic’s ‘Disappointed’, Marc Almond, Boy George – and the beautiful and sophisticated ballad ‘The One’, from Elton John.

U2 had successfully reinvented themselves with 1991’s Achtung Baby and the ‘Perfecto Mix’ version of fourth single ‘Even Better Than The Real Thing’ features on a strong CD 1 which also includes The KLF (‘America: What Time Is Love? s biggest seller in both the UK and the US opens the final disc: ‘I Will Always Love You’ from Whitney Houston, followed by huge hits from Vanessa Williams and Lionel Richie, before second tracks on this collection from Kylie Minogue and Take That – with their first Top 10 single ‘It Only Takes A Minute’.Hawkins and the collaboration between Patty Smyth and Don Henley provided massive radio-friendly soft Rock – and Chris Rea and Elton John each released a timeless and sophisticated ballad, before great vocals from Des’ree, Julia Fordham and Lisa Stansfield sign off the disc. Licensing issues can work for you occasionally, presuming that’s what has prevented Red Said Fred’s ‘Deeply Dippy’ being included on this compilation. With some re-jigging they could have then fitted the 1992 Remix of Simple Minds' Love Song instead of the 1981 original that's included here. Crowded House have their second appearance on this album with ‘Four Seasons In One Day’ and the disc comes to a close with two beautiful ballads from Belinda Carlisle and Gloria Estefan. Brian May’s ‘Too Much Love Will Kill You’ begins disc 2, followed by Mike Oldfield’s ‘Sentinel’, plus fantastic covers from Cher (‘Could've Been You’), KISS (‘God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You II’), and Manic Street Preachers (‘Theme From M*A*S*H (Suicide Is Painless)’).
