About this deal
Softer on the peat smoke than a Laphroaig or Ardbeg, this expression is one our our go-to Islay single malts. I have tried mixing Arran Sherry Single Cask 12 with some success, so long as the Caol Ila is at least 60% of the blend. While being highly enjoyable and very similar to Talisker, the latter just shows a more stronger maritime and overall character. Underneath that there is the faintest phenolic aroma, something slightly medicinal, but much less then say Ardbeg.
Blend: If you already have a bottle of Talisker in your collection, try different mixes with the Caol Ila. We reserve the right to immediately and without prior notice deactivate, suspend and/or terminate your account if you do not abide by the Terms, if you act unlawful, if you do not act or use the Service in good faith, or if you cause any harm whatsoever to the Service, to other Members, to other persons or to us. We’re also getting a touch more ethanol when adding water, some ginger, dried grape must, candied pecans, a hint of chlorine and cloves.Very strong yet nicely balanced aromas which, on a second visit, provide you with a touch of tincture and iodine.
Their whisky is considered as one of the lighter Islay whiskies but the reality is, Caol Ila produces big peated characters as well. The flavour is equally intense, with a thick richness on the palate, rich in malt and sherry with bright fruited sweetness and the smoky peat always there in the background. The various expressions of Talisker and Lagavulin are nicely rounded without the toughness of the other Islays. It may also be worth noting that after an hour or so in the glass it does start to break down a little - becoming overly sour and one-dimensional. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. I think, to be perfectly honest, my friend's gung-ho nostalgia for such a dark and grisly chapter in history of her neighborhood haunts me more than the tale itself.
