About this deal

This bright, breezy picture-book debut by Toronto author-illustrator Kelly Collier marks the first time I have ever seen the myth of Narcissus reworked with a horse in the starring role. Kids Can Press suggested that we talk to Nelvana about A Horse Named Steve, and we were obviously on board.

What I Liked Most:This is a wonderful book to draw out conversations about what makes a person exceptional. This is something everyone can relate to- especially young readers who are still trying to figure out just who they are. The two heroes are meticulously drawn with endearing, expressive faces and body language, and their feathers and fur appear textured and touchable.A laugh-out-loud tale of an endearingly self-absorbed horse who learns that there’s more than one way to blow your own horn! However, when he loses it, Steve is devastated and embarks on a slapstick mission to rediscover his best self. Blue explains that “clouds bump and tumble in the sky, / but here inside we’re warm and dry, / and all the thirsty plants below / will get a drink to help them grow!

However, by the end of his journey, he discovers that all his worrying was unnecessary – he was exceptional all along! Whether it is training, rigging support, consutling services to step up your animation products, Toon Boom has a network of animation professionals here to help you achieve new levels of success. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Securing the horn to his head (or so he thinks), he parades himself before his friends, never noticing when his new headpiece slides from his head, and ends up hanging around his neck. Vain Steve ties a horn to his head in an effort to be exceptional, prompting all his forest friends to copy him, leading to.Tonally and structurally, the book is reminiscent of the works of Mélanie Watt, and though Steve isn’t as memorable or instantly iconic a character as, say, Scaredy Squirrel, he is every bit as enjoyable to read about. Toon Boom sets itself appart in the market through a grass roots connection with the global animation market through its ambassadors, social channels, live video content, forums, networks. It's that that makes him exceedingly SPECIAL and something he can accomplish all on his own and been there the whole time! Many pages include knowing annotations that add to the sense that Collier favours fun over moral messaging.
