About this deal

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES and the names of the characters, items, events and places therein are trademarks of The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Middle-earth Enterprises under license to New Line Productions, Inc. You’ll never see a Space Marine mourning, likely because they are literally manufactured to know no fear. Written by Torunn Grønbekk ( The Mighty Valkyries ) and with art by Edgar Salazar ( Uncanny X-Men ), the series follows a squad of Battle Sisters as they fight to retrieve a lost Inquisitorial acolyte on planet Siscia and put down a heretical uprising for good measure.

When I heard of the Sisters of Battle series coming out, I was so stoked because I love Warhammer, and I loved this book.

I’m not sure if you were aware, but in the grim darkness of Warhammer 40,000’s far future there is only war. Most recently, at 2021’s Warhammer Fest event, GW revealed a brand new centrepiece character model for the army, in the form of High Abbess Morvenn Vahl, the overall leader of the Adepta Sororitas (and a total badass in a golden-armoured Paragon Warsuit). Both a pro and a con of Warhammer comics is how deep this lore goes, and how the creators navigate that to make it understandable to unfamiliar readers. A squad of Adepta Sororitas, led by CANONESS VERIDYAN arrive on planet Siscia to retrieve a lost Inquisitorial acolyte and put down a heretical uprising. Nowhere is that more clear than in the canonical representation of the Sisters of Battle — sexy, gritty women with sleek armor and enormous military assets.

The second Warhammer 40,000 Marvel Comics series is off to a good start with an impressively international creative team. It seems like only yesterday that we were announcing the groundbreaking arrival of a Warhammer 40,000 comic, doesn’t it? Show your faith and fervor to the Emperor by joining us for the start of the next phase of WARHAMMER comics at Marvel! A squad of Adepta Sororitas, led by Canoness Veridyan arrive on planet Siscia to retrieve a lost Inquisitorial Acolyte and put down a heretical uprising. Surprisingly, the book is light on gore, though what the Sisters fight against near the end of the book is undoubtedly frightening.

And while it does feel like a healthy knowledge of the Warhammer universe and its characters would make this a richer reading experience, there’s still enough here to scratch that violent war-loving itch. But there are also nuns — very, very violent nuns — and this week those fightin’ nuns get their own comic book. He has a degree in Politics and a Master’s in International Journalism, but failed his cycling proficiency test twice. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The main attraction of 40k is the miniatures, but there are also many video games, board games, books, ect.

So, my assumption would be that now at the end of 2022, they'll start releasing a new limited series again, right? GrØnbekk opens the issue with a man in cobbled together armor throwing what appear to be religious priests off a very high ledge. And while it does feel like a healthy knowledge of the Warhammer universe and its characters would make this a richer reading experience, there's still enough here to scratch that violent war-loving itch. If they can't fight their way through the unexpected appearance of a DAEMON in the tunnels, it may not matter! Salazar draws a dynamic issue, with little details in clothes, guns, and environments that help sell this sci-fi world. They dress in black armor with red accents and, like all Sisters of Battle, have a preference for flamethrowers. Even the somewhat tawdry alternate cover featuring art borrowed from John Blanche’s second edition sourcebook, with the Canonness proudly presenting her glistening, four-inch, ceramite and adamantine heels to the camera … it’s fine. I was hoping that this comic would help to elevate them and give them a bit higher profile, a bit more agency.
