About this deal

It's always an excellent service with brilliant products at a very competitive price - will use again! Escape from the Grand Hotel was Professor Puzzle’s first foray into tabletop escape games… and they got a lot right. When their glamorous, rich and influential guests arrive for the grand re-opening, they’re ready for a night to remember – little do they suspect it will be for all the wrong reasons! The gameplay took some clear inspiration from the ThinkFun tabletop escape games, using location envelopes and paper components to tell a puzzle-driven narrative. Their approach to answer verification was clever. We enjoyed the structure of Escape from the Grand Hotel. Each puzzle led us to another room in the hotel. It was fun to explore the hotel in this way.

Professor Puzzle encourages players to make an evening of Escape from the Grand Hotel. They included invitations to mail to guests, who can come in character and in costume. This would be a fun way to make a play-at-home puzzle game into a bigger event. Although the artwork was beautiful, it included a visual variance that factored into the gameplay. Cluing needed to match the artwork, or vice versa.Owned by the wealthy but mysterious Blossom family, this once magnificent hotel was in danger of being closed for good until the sudden return of the Blossom son, Kurt, and his beautiful wife, Lauren. They want to restore the hotel to its former glory but something isn’t quite right. When their glamorous, rich and influential guests arrive for the grand re-opening, they’re ready for a night to remember – but as it turns out, it’s memorable for all the wrong reasons!

Continuing our “travels” while isolated at home in London, we took a trip to a Grand Hotel. This is the first Professor Puzzle Escape Room in a box game we have tried. This is a 90 minutes escape game. Owned by the wealthy but mysterious Blossom family, the once magnificent Grand Hotel was in danger of being closed for good until the sudden return of the Blossom son, Kurt, and his beautiful wife, Lauren. They want to restore the hotel to its former glory, but nothing is quite what it seems…Weird, wonderful, exhausting, entertaining, daft and downright ridiculous, Phantom Peak is an immersive experience not to be missed.

Each room envelope unfolds to reveal a clue. Some rooms contain a puzzle to solve, but surprisingly, not each room holds a puzzle. Some just hold a puzzle piece or a continuation of the story. Yes, there’s a lot of reading. invitations in envelopes – with full descriptions of the characters so your guests can dress up in advance Your guests travel through the hotel, solving the series of interactive puzzles that release them from each room. There are 9 different rooms to visit, starting in Your Room, each one containing a different puzzle or challenge that will lead to the next room… and the next riddle-filled envelope.Sadly I felt a little let down by this room and I can't put my finger on why. It could have been that the final stage tech wasn't as smooth as the rest or maybe just that our expectations were too high after enjoying their other rooms. The game itself is very linear, and I think probably would have been better with less people (2-3 I think would work fantastically with the room) That said, I don’t think that the characters/ invites are worth the effort. They do not impact the game in any meaningful way.

There are some interesting ideas and a lot of great execution in Escape from the Grand Hotel. If you really enjoy tabletop escape games, this one had a lot to offer. However, there were too many little flaws and gaps that got amplified by the limited hint system for me to comfortably recommend this to a tabletop escape game newbie. Who is this for? Also, I’ve seen videos where they indicate they change puzzles and a different version 2 or version 3 of the game is released. Professor Puzzle provided duplicate copies of one of the more tedious puzzles so that more players could participate. Owned by the wealthy but mysterious Blossom family, this once magnificent hotel was in danger of being closed for good until the sudden return of the Blossom son, Kurt and his beautiful wife, Lauren. They want to restore the hotel to its former glory but nothing is quite what it seems! What hidden secrets will you uncover in the Grand Hotel? Invite your guests, set the scene and get ready to host a night of fun and intrigue with this fast-paced, fast-thinking cross between a murder mystery and an escape room game.

Invite your guests, set your scene and get ready to host a night of fun and intrigue. The ultimate quest? To uncover the dark, hidden secret of The Grand Hotel … Professor Puzzle’s Escape from the Grand Hotel was a standard play-at-home escape game with a moderate to high level of difficulty. If you’re comfortable with tabletop escape room puzzles, this was moderately difficult. If you aren’t comfortable with the format, the limited hinting could make this game quite challenging. It’s the big re-opening of the Grand Hotel but nothing is quite what it seems in this immersive escape room game! If you type something in the 'Text to display' box, that will be displayed instead of any star rating. We encountered some taxonomy inconsistencies within the in-game instructions. The way that it referred to things sometimes shifted. This got confusing.
