About this deal

For bandwidth, other memory manufacturers have quoted that for the theoretical 38.4 GB/s that each module of DDR5-4800 can bring, they are already seeing effective numbers in the 32 GB/s range. This is above the effective 20-25 GB/s per channel that we are seeing on DDR4-3200 today. Other memory manufacturers have already announced that they are sampling DDR5 with customers since the beginning of the year. Though the use of DDR5 doesn’t affect capacity demand, the increased capacity baseline of performance RAM comes at a time when increases in software complexity are already making 32GB an attractive starting point for high-end builds. We'd expect to see a move from 8GB as the starting point for mainstream systems based on DDR4, to 16GB with DDR5.

Other improvements, such as its increased (twice-as-high) data rate, could prove beneficial to those trying to extract more performance from integrated graphics on supported processors. But it’s important to remember that DDR4’s capacity limits will linger long after new programs push high-end builders to seek alternative solutions. DDR5 may be young, but it is the future. Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test. With precision forged aluminum, die-casting, and anodization, DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB DDR5 complements the styling and power of high-end system builds. Cools the memory through both the ICs and the ground plane of the PCB itself with its own dedicated heatspreader, ensuring high performance even under extreme loads.

The latest Corsair Vengeance DDR5 kits aren’t particularly flashy or exciting, however, there’s little that can rival it as far as the best budget DDR5 kits go. With its humble asking prices, more-than-repectable performance, variety of speeds and capacities, combined with worldwide availability, this is a kit to consider if you’re watching your spending. Total cost of ownership: Our Micron 96GB DDR5 DRAM technology is optimized for TCO (total cost of ownership) in enterprise and cloud service provider environments. Micron DDR5 memory is validated and available in 16/32/64GB and 24/48/96GB capacities. For now, on the consumer side of the aisle, you'll see DDR5 memory support on the lion's share of (but not all) initial motherboards for 12th Generation Core, under the Z690 chipset. Note: Some Z690 boards, however, will maintain support for DDR4. (More on that in a moment.) SK Hynix has not provided information of the sub-timings of these modules. The JEDEC specification defines three different modes for DDR5-4800:scales overall bandwidth with DDR5 speeds of 7200 MT/s today and up to 8800 MT/s in the near future DDR5 is the next stage of platform memory for use in the majority of major compute platforms. The specification ( as released in July 2020) brings the main voltage down from 1.2 V to 1.1 V, increases the maximum silicon die density by a factor 4, doubles the maximum data rate, doubles the burst length, and doubles the number of bank groups. Simply put, the JEDEC DDR specifications allows for a 128 GB unbuffered module running at DDR5-6400. RDIMMs and LRDIMMs should be able to go much higher, power permitting. JEDEC DDR Generations Improved reliability: ODECC (on-die error correction code) detects all single- and double-bit error codes and resolves single-bit error codes before sending them to the host CPU/GPU. ODECC is an evolution included in the DDR5 specification that is designed to improve customer quality and enable future scaling.

Still, with this kit you get the best possible performance for the price of just about any RAM we've tested, so if you're looking for value, this kit is the way to go. We found in our testing that the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB kit consistently performed stronger than many leading DDR5 RAM kits in our roundup in synthetic benchmarks. This includes PassMask and AIDA64, where few others come close to the scores achieved. What’s particularly strong about this flagship RAM is the price-to-performance ratio. Ditch the tedious process of manually adjusting your performance settings each time when you save your own XMP profiles through iCUE. DDR5 is Coming: First 64GB DDR5-4800 Modules from SK Hynix by Dr. Ian Cutress on October 6, 2020 8:00 AM ESTThe Crucial Ballistix name is no more, and this bare PCB kit won't win any beauty contests or set speed records, but as a set and forget kit for an alt-tabbing gamer or workstation user, it's definitely worth a look. Regardless, the Corsair kit performs at a decent level across our benchmark suite. The jump from the entry-level 4800MHz kits to 5200MHz is just enough to make a difference in apps that thrive on higher bandwidth. Of course, it trails the faster kits you would expect.
