The Logitech G602 Gaming Mouse is an impressive device, but it’s been over five years since its original release and in that time plenty of competitors have come along. The two most similar competitors are the Logitech G305 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse and the Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Mouse. Change the Report Rate, if you prefer something other than the default of 500 reports/second (2ms response time). The Report Rate controls how often your mouse updates its position to the computer. This module provides an introduction to the field of Digital Systems – the engineering principles upon which all contemporary computer systems are based. The Logitech G602 is a narrow, roughly pill-shaped mouse which is a just a little more ergonomic than a standard, shapeless computer mouse. It has eleven buttons which can be programmed through Logitech’s software. Unlike the G502, the G602 does not have the ability to have RGB color because it was not built with that functionality. If you want a mouse that will match the rest of your RGB setup, the G602 is not the choice for you.The mouse itself has a nice arch to it that fits comfortably in a right-handed palm grip, but the newly updated design means the Logitech G502 size is slimmer with rubberized grips on the sides which make it suitable for claw and fingertip grippers as well, if perhaps not as comfortable. The sensor for the G602 leaves quite a lot to be desired when compared against the G502. It only has a detection rate for the optical sensor from 250 to 2500 DPI. This will not be precise enough for many of the more demanding games, and hardcore gamers who are looking for an inexpensive mouse will be disappointed in the performance from this mouse. Here are just some of the roles that our BSc and MSci Software Engineering students have progressed into upon graduating: We found that the G602 was best suited to MOBAs. This is largely down to there being enough re-programmable buttons on the mouse to be useful for games such as League of Legends and Dota 2. The maximum DPI is also more than enough to keep pace in battle-arena-style games. The same can be said for real-time strategy games – the G602 will work just fine with StarCraft II. The G602 is a wireless mouse, which can cause lag problems sometimes. People who prefer portability and don’t mind some of the functionality deficits should choose the G602 over the G502, but for gamers who require the least amount of latency possible, then the G502 is the clear winner.

Course Structure

Logitech’s button placement is well thought out. All are easy to access, with perhaps the exception of the performance mode switcher, which is a little more awkward to toggle. What’s great about the G602 is that the side buttons can be easily differentiated, despite being small and close together. A row of blue LEDs on the side of the G602 are used to display which DPI level you’re at – more on that later. Like all gaming mice, the G602 has its strengths and weaknesses when it comes to various video-game genres. Software Engineers are programming architects, who apply computer science, engineering and mathematical analysis to the design and development of large, complex, and critical software systems. In this module, students explore the fundamental concepts related to visual content generation through relevant theory, such as the essential mathematics, graphics data structures and algorithms, kinematics, collisions, colour, and light. The G602 is a right-handed mouse, and is most comfortable when used with a palm-grip. A thumb-rest juts out from the side for added support and ribbed rubber improves grip when your palms get sweaty. The curvature of the mouse feels natural, and we’re happy to say this is one of the most comfortable designs we’ve ever used.

Students will also study how the fundamental concept of virtualisation enables safe, efficient, and fair sharing of memory and processor resources across multiple applications and services. They will investigate the structure, operation, and scalability of OS subsystems, such as memory allocators and file systems, as well as discuss the performance implications of operating systems and discover how performance can be maintained even in the presence of relatively low performance input/output. Finally, students will explore how symmetric multi-processors can be used transparently to optimize the performance of a computer, the implications this has for system software, and how and why the effective application of caching policies and temporal/spatial locality greatly affect the performance of a system. You will also undertake a variety of software design-based modules, ensuring you gain a broad and robust level of skills and experience. These projects will develop your data analysis, graphical, report writing and presentation skills.The Logitech G502 is an obligate corded mouse which offers additional features like RGB lighting, optical sensor which means higher DPI, weight tuning and sensor tuning options. The G502 also has a Dual-Mode scroll wheel which can be either notched or smooth, depending on your preference and is capable of hyper scrolling. Beware of capitalizing on this feature during gaming, because some people will consider it cheating. There may be extra costs related to your course for items such as books, stationery, printing, photocopying, binding and general subsistence on trips and visits. Following graduation, you may need to pay a subscription to a professional body for some chosen careers. My biggest concern prior to using the G602 was the wireless connection. Over the years wireless gaming mice have gotten a bum rap for problems with latency and interference, and the reputation wasn't undeserved. However, while USB does give you a latency-free, interference-free connection, it's a bit of a bummer to have a cord hanging off of your mouse, getting in the way or slowing down movements in the middle of a game. The G602 is a comfortable mouse, much more so than the Razer Naga, and one that you could quite easily use for work/leisure activities outside of gaming. We used it for full work days without any issues with wrist fatigue, for instance. In addition to developing your foundational understanding, programming, and software design skills, you will explore social, ethical and professional issues related to the discipline and will complete a group project.
